Cooperation between ASEAN and Japan are working together heart to heart, that is mutually beneficial cooperation on the basis of equality of culture and traditional values.
This was stated by the Ambassador of Japan to ASEAN, Takio Yamada, inaugurated the office after the Japanese mission to ASEAN in Jakarta, Thursday, May 26, 2011. Yamada said that Japanese culture contributed much in the values in ASEAN, as well as vice versa. That's why the Japanese mission to enhance ASEAN cooperation in this time called "Partnership of the Heart to Heart."
"We feel there is chemistry between ASEAN and Japan. In ASEAN, we feel like at home," says Yamada.
Japan has been a dialogue partner of ASEAN since it first was in 1967. The opening of Japan to ASEAN's mission is the form of strengthening cooperation in the future relations between the two parties.
Yamada said that the ASEAN countries in the economic field has contributed much to the development in Japan. ASEAN position, he said, is second after China in the amount of economic cooperation. This assumption breaks a lot of people that the United States is the largest partner for Japan.
"In the field of trade, the amount of cooperation with ASEAN greater than cooperation with the United States. ASEAN countries also become a major destination for Japanese investors," he said.
ASEAN also, he said, will have an important role in revitalizing the Japanese economy after earthquake and tsunami last March 11.
