"Ansonia Latidisca" Frogs That Was Never Seen Since 1924


"Ansonia latidisca", or often dubbed as the "frog Sambas river" or "frog rainbowBorneo", is a tiny frog species that was rediscovered in 2011 after not been seen since1924.

This species can be found in Indonesia and Malaysia. Natural habitats are rivers andforests are moist tropical or subtropical in the lowlands. This frog is endangered due to habitat loss aslinya.Ciri features of these frogs are small, with a length between 30 and 50 mm.Mereka have long skinny legs and the skin behind the bright green, purple and red. Have colored spots on the skin behind an uneven but "gravel" and like warts.

Robin Moore's amphibian expert told National Geographic that this kind of skin is usually a sign of poison glands.

Herpetolog Indraneil Das, leader of the team that found the back of this frog, the frogcolor dubbed "like moss" and explained that it may be an adaptation to Ansonialatidisca camouflaged in a mossy tree bark.

According to the Global Search for the Lost list of amphibians made ​​by Conservation International in 2010, Ansonia Latidisca frog is one of 10 frogs of the most sought afterin the world. This frog has not been seen since 1924. Before it was rediscovered, a picture of this frog specimens collected from the rover in the 1920's.

In July 2011, scientists from the University Malaysia Sarawak led by Dr. Indraneil Dasfind and take pictures of the three specimens on Mount Penrissen, Sarawak Barat.Parascientists refused to tell the location of the frog's definitely because of fear of abuse bypoachers and pet sellers internationally.
