Jakarta - Mushrooms lit when darkness was last found in 1840. However, this fungus is now re-emerged in Brazil.
Dennis Desjardin and his team of scientist from San Francisco State University found the fungus is on this. The team is collecting new specimens and reclassified these fungiin Neonothopanus Gardner.
This fungus was last seen in 1840. When British botanist George Gardner found a boyplaying with a lit object. Researchers plan to study this fungus closely to find out why andhow some mushrooms can be lit.
It has a light mushroom story worldwide, "Most people fear in this fungus and called it'ghost mushrooms,'" said Derjardin.
Researchers believe the way this fungus is similar to a firefly glow, through a mixture ofchemicals luciferin and Luciferase. However, scientists claim to have identified these compounds in fungi.
"This fungus is lit 24 hours, as long as water and oxygen available," Desjardin jalas.
Even so, why the fungus is able to light remains a mystery. "We do not understand what really happened," said Derjardin reported Dailymail. The findings are published in the journal Mycologia.
